Uganda is one of the smaller states in Africa (comparable to the area of Great Britain), but has a population growth rate of 3.3%, which is typical for the region. The former British colony with its approx. 35 million inhabitants has had a very eventful history. Dictatorships (Idi Amin) and civil wars terrified the people until the nineties of the 20th century.

The literacy rate and life expectancy of the local population is still relatively low. The proportion of people infected with HIV/Aids is currently 5.9 percent.

The inflation rate is 3 per cent.
